Octanews has closed its doors for good.
This is a bittersweet time for me. For the first time since the early
1990s I am not running a Usenet news server.
Octanews began in 2004 with high hopes and a very large personal
investment. It provided Usenet news to both independent Octanews
customers and to ipHouse customers. As the years passed Octanews was
unable to compete with larger players for the ever shrinking Usenet
news pie. It was operating at a loss, a loss that can no longer be
sustained. Seeing the writing on the wall, I stopped billing my
direct Octanews customers this fall, giving them their last months of
service free.
While Octanews is gone, ipHouse
is committed to providing Usenet news access to its own customers.
